In March, Supermicro co-founder Yih-Shyan "Wally" Liaw was taken into custody by federal officials in California, accused of illegally transporting servers equipped with Nvidia technology valued at $2.5 billion to China during 2024 and 2025. Liaw has denied the allegations and was released after posting a $5 million bail. Supermicro, Liang, and the other co-founder Sara Liu were not charged, and Nvidia was not implicated. In a communication to shareholders, Liang asserted that Supermicro was deceived in the smuggling operation.
